Australian author Zanni Louise has written over forty books spanning all ages from picture books to writing teen fiction as Zanni L. Arnot. This is the fourth book in a new series called Handbooks for Little Humans, a picture book designed to guide meaningful conversations between adults and children. The Handbooks for Little Humans: Integrity, explores the language, feelings and behaviour associated with doing the right thing even when no-one is watching. Jingting Wang’s colourful illustrations visually supports the simple text, making the subject very accessible for the four- to eight-year-old reader.

Integrity is important. It helps us make good decisions. And making good decisions means we feel good about ourselves. From the eye-catching cover, the colourful headings with questions and answers and the varied colourful scenarios, we learn about the meaning of the word, what it feels like to act with integrity, and how it makes others feel. From simple acts such as packing away toys, being patient, saying sorry, or simply telling the truth, the reader learns that these are not always easy choices. It takes courage to do the right thing.

This is a well- written book, providing emotional literacy, safe and kid friendly illustrations and many opportunities for further discussion. A useful book for home and school, and even in a therapy session, empowering children to know their own set of rules or values, to make good decisions, and to do the right thing even when it is hard.
