Pocket Potters – Little Guides to the Harry Potter Stories

Reviewed by Mia Macrossan

Dobby the ever helpful house-elf is a standout character in J K Rowlings Harry Potter series and here he has a book all to himself. Each double page spread in the well designed hardback illustrated book focuses on an important part of Dobby’s role in the Harry Potter stories.

It starts with Dobby’s Warning where Dobby visits Privet Drive on Harry’s 12th birthday, followed by a close look at what Dobby is and does. I love the section headed ‘Dobby Did It for the Best’ where some of his less successful efforts to help Harry are mentioned. Other pages are about being a free elf, Dobby and magic, Dobby’s collection of clothes, his socks and more.

There is lots of information on each page with colourful illustrations to break up and enliven the text.  The back matter includes information about J K Rowling, Helen Brady, and lists other titles in the series and the complete list of Harry Potter titles.

These Pocket Potters are ideal for those who want to explore the world of Potter before diving into the novels or for those who have a special fondness for a particular character as each one is a deep dive into one character.

An  enjoyable book to browse or read from cover to cover.

Other books in the series include Hagrid, Luna Lovegood, Professor McGonagall, Dumbledore, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and even Harry Potter himself.
