Where is the Green Sheep

By Mem Fox & Judy Horacek

Reviewed by Mia Macrossan

Mem Fox has written more than 40 books for children, including the award-winning and much-loved picture books Possum Magic and Where is the Green Sheep? which is celebrating 20 years in print this year with a special gorgeous gold foil celebration edition.
This much loved rhyming rollicking quest for the green sheep has lost none of its zing and sparkle over the years. One of the reasons for this longevity is the clever rhyming text which never jars, but skips and sings along inviting children to recite along with the reader.
It subtly introduces basic concepts of up/down, near/far, sun/rain, moon/stars and more.   Clever use of white space, black line and solid blocks of colour create the perfect background for all the woolly sheep who leap, slide, and jump about except for that elusive green sheep.
It continues to be the perfect read aloud, the perfect gift to new parents and an essential book in any school or home library.
