Riley’s Failproof Guide to Breaking a School Record is a pun-tastic middle-grade novel that follows Riley Noodle, who has been trying to break a school record for seven years. She is determined but, unfortunately, very unlucky!
Every single kid at Riley’s school has broken a Crumpet Creek Primary School Record, except for Riley. Riley faces numerous mishaps, each in increasing hilarity and ickiness. She accidentally gets superglued to the principal’s dog and somehow eats a class pet! Henry, the school’s hot dog eating champion, and Olivia, a confident new girl support Riley’s hopes of finally breaking a record.
The book is a comedic exploration of resilience, friendship, and self-belief. It is packed with light-hearted and relatable moments for readers 8+. There are a few icky sections (like eating a live fish) that are sure to make readers giggle and squirm.
