Rainbow Street

By R W R McDonald & Kelly Canby
Reviewed by Mia Macrossan
The title is an indication of what is inside – a melange of familial relationships all living harmoniously on the one street and all getting together to celebrate Cherry’s grandma’s 90th birthday. Each person is part of a mixed family. Cherry herself has three homes: her Dad’s and Papa’s, her Ma’s and stepmum’s and her Mum’s and Felix’s. ( I can’t work this one out, but that is irrelevant!)
Everone has lots of fun preparing and presenting their special  foods and enjoying each other’s company. The obvious aim is to start a conversation about inclusion, belonging, diversity, traditions, food customs and more.
What brings the book to life are the glorious colourful zany energetic illustrations of award winning Kelly Canby. Each page is a delight to explore and enjoy.
