Dogs with Jobs

By Max Hamilton

Max Hamilton is an award winning  illustrator of The Beehive, CockatooNeeka and the Missing Key (Wilder Zoo, #1) and more. Here she has written and illustrated a great introduction to the world of the working dog.
This is a fascinating book for anyone who knows and loves dogs. We learn about Albie who guards the Sydney Opera House cafe. His job is to stop seagulls from stealing people’s food. There’s Dutch who helps nervous patients feel calm in the dentist’s chair. There’s  a beekeeper dog, a water rescue dog, a school companion dog and Eba, the fascinating whale poo dog, whose job is to sniff out whale poo in the water which is then collected by scientist who monitor the health, movement and diet of orca whales.
In all there are fifteen dogs profiled who all have impressive specialised jobs. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours and from all over the world,  Italy, the USA, Austria, France and Japan but the majority of dogs are from Australia.
The illustrations are lively, detailed, and informative. I love that in the illustration for the school companion dog which is in a library, one of the books on display is an easily recognisable Dogs with Jobs.
This attractive picture book is an excellent addition to any school library and a stimulating and informative gift for any child with an enquiring mind.
