Meet the Artist: Jennifer Horn
By Mia Macrossan

Jennifer Horn is one of this year’s artist exhibiting at the annual Book Links StoryArts Exhibition held every year at the Richard Randal Art Studio, a glorious purpose built art space, set in the grounds of the Mt Coot-Tha Botanical Gardens.
Date: From Friday 10 April – opening night 5pm until Sunday 19 April
With a background in Architecture, Jen draws on her love of stories and adventure to create whimsical illustrations in a Quentin-Blake-inspired squiggle style. Her books include:
The Precious Plum, is the story of a baker of magical goods who also has an extraordinary garden. Not only were there elderberries, parsnips and cloves amongst her seedlings, there were also fruits of the soul that grew, such as courage, peace and faith. She leaves the village to make her culinary fortune or maybe meet a prince but she finds that she has left something very important behind…
Where Are the Butterflies written by Lauren Tarrant. Written in rhyming verse this picture book tells the story of two children who try to find out what has happened to all the butterflies. Along the way they learn about love and how all people are connected. They meet the Caterpillar Queen who tells them: I’ll show you what love and care brings.
Juniper’s Painting written by Catherine Bauer. This story features Juniper, a little girl forced to stay inside since it is too wet and stormy to go out. She occupies herself rather listlessly with various activities but becomes totally engrossed when she brings out her box of paints. The reader sees her imagination take flight as she creates a perfect beach scene.
Skippy Blackfeet written by Rebecca Fraser. This is the story of the friendship between a little black kitten, christened Skippy Blackfeet, when adopted by May and her family. Skippy and May go together like milk and sardines and their adventures all told in these three illustrated stories in the one volume, perfect for beginning readers.

Jennifer’s artwork will be on sale at the exhibition so be sure to come and visit.
