What Noise Does the Baby Make?

By Jacinta Froud & Cat MacInnes

If a pig goes OINK and a goat goes MAA  what noise does the sheep make? Turn the page to a big double page spread and see a flock of sheep all saying BAA. This is the format followed for the rest of the book. Animals featured include chick, cow, rooster, followed by shark, stingray, crocodile, slug, cricket, frog and more.
We finally get to the question in the title and the answer is a delightful surprise. Children will enjoy joining in, making and guessing all the animal noises.
The illustrations are simple using bright colours. The animals are placed in centre of each page, sometimes surrounded by white space, sometimes situated within their normal environment. The big double page spreads really encourage an enthusiastic rendition of the particular animal noise. Significant words appear in larger font for emphasis which helps the reader give life and expression to the storytelling.
We start with familiar animals then move onto more exotic creatures – an iguana apparently says Achoo! Achoo!.
Lots of fun for everyone from babies to toddlers to grownups.
