Normally Henseleit writes narrative fiction that aims to get children hooked on reading such as his middle grade horror series The Withing Hours and the junior fiction pirate series Cross Bones. But here is something completely different, a book of activities, games, and puzzles that the whole family can enjoy while travelling. His definition of a travel game is ‘one that requires no components whatsoever: all you need are the rules in your head, so you can start playing them whenever and wherever you like,’ (blog August 5, 2023).
There are 63 games suitable for a variety of players. A handy key indicates levels of play and recommended ages for players. Anyone who has played games while travelling will recognize many of them. Maybe they have slightly different rules but essentially they are the same. There is the Alphabet game where players work together to spot the letters of the alphabet in the correct sequence, charades, the memory game ‘I packed my bag’, trivia questions, quizzes, riddles, and more. Where answers are required, they are given in the back of the book.
