‘ I dreamed of your sweet giggles as you’d skip and hold my hand’.
This is one of those picture books celebrating a parent’s hopes and dreams for a child. It shows an idealised version of a mother and child sharing their life together. We see them blowing bubbles, playing in the sand, finding treasure and dancing to a song and more. Gradually the activities change as the child gets older, but always the mother is there observing, supporting, helping, sharing. Then we circle back to a very pregnant mum and the child arrives and the dream becomes a reality.
It presents a picture of life to a young child who may find it interesting to compare and contrast with their own life. It’s a nice book to give to an expectant mum as it focuses on the many joys of having a child without mentioning any of the day to day challenges that parenting entails.
