Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the Tooth Fairy (And Some Things You Didn’t)

Award winning Australian writer and illustrator Briony Stewart has created an amazingly comprehensive story about a subject close to every 5- to eight-year-old child. Every single minute of every single day, a child somewhere loses a baby tooth.  Well, here is the story about what happens to all those teeth, even the rotten ones. From the cover, end pages and the informative 32 pages in between, we are taken on an illustrated magical guide into the world of the tooth fairy (or fairies), with answers to questions children may ask and even informing parents with some of those insightful questions such as Why does the tooth fairy leave different amounts of money?
Each page or double pages begins with a question, followed by some creative answers. What do fairies eat? Often it is a bit of whatever is nearest while they are waiting to collect a tooth. What if I want to keep my tooth? If you are not ready to let it go… they hope you might give them a tooth another time. The book covers a myriad of questions from where tooth fairies live, what they do with the collected teeth, and even the yukky premise of what happens if a tooth should fall down the toilet.
The colourful whimsical illustrations captivate and inform, and the fun text speaks directly to the child undergoing this developmental milestone. An amazing book for both a questioning curious child as well as the adult reader.
Briony is a gifted storyteller who wrapped a beautiful tale around this childhood mythology supported with beautiful illustrations and unusual vocabulary such as embiggening, floofs and the Milktooth Way. She has even included some instructions for what to do when one loses a tooth. I am looking forward to reading this book with my 6-year-old granddaughter.
