Lady’s Knight

Written by Aime Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Aimee Kaufman and Meagan Spooner are a writing dream team. This dynamic duo, comprised of two exceptional science fiction and fantasy authors in their own right, successfully flex their creative skills once again in their latest book together, titled Lady’s Knight.
Lady’s Knight, pitched as A Knight’s Tale for women, is a love letter to medieval England and to fierce females! Two fair maidens find themselves on opposite sides of the jousting tournament—one as the prized spectator who has been promised to marry the champion and the other as a participant in disguise.
Gwen hides in many ways—she moonlights as a blacksmith by day and a knight in her spare time, plus she secretly admires women. Lady Isobelle usually loves being the centre of attention, except the unwanted attentions of every knight entered in the Tournament of Dragonslayers who desires to win and claim her as their bride. When the two women meet, attraction sparks a brilliant plan. Gwen will enter the tournament disguised as a male knight and win to claim freedom for Isobelle and hopefully her heart.
The story captures the beauty, strengths and flaws of both female heroines, each with their own unique talents that when combined make them formidable team. There is plenty of action to keep the plot ticking on, lots of interesting medieval settings like the tournament, castle and village and most of all a cast of characters you equally care about and a few you dislike.
Throughout the novel, the quill and ink pot pages signal fun passages where the narrator talks directly to the reader and reveals insightful details, similarly employed like the narrator, Lady Whistledown in the popular adult romance series, Bridgerton. Best of all is the witty writing and quippy dialogue that keeps the reader engaged. And to satisfy the fantasy readers there is even a dragon.
The book design features the elements of a stunning medieval illuminated manuscript, including beautiful borders, gorgeous chapter numbers and lettering and the narrator sections have old paper, a grey border and a cute pen and inkpot illustration.
Lady’s Knight is an entertaining adventure story featuring fantastic female characters with a touch of romance, horses and jousting, which is sure to keep teenagers absorbed and young adult fans captivated. If you’re a fan of Amie Kaufman or Meagan Spooner’s books or you appreciate great writing, witty dialogue and anything medieval, you’re sure to love this book.
Readers who loved Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte will also enjoy Lady’s Knight.
