This is an inspiring story for any child beginning to learn a new instrument. Two children live in the same apartment block but they have never met. They practise their music, he has a violin and she has a cello, but it is all a bit lonely. But then they communicate in a musical way and and work together to create a spectacular surprise for an audience of family and friends.
The colourful detailed illustrations reveal that the children come from different cultures but show that music is a great way to connect and make new friends.
Included within the story is the score for The Mystery Friend duet for violin and cello composed by Alexander Lau, a young an emerging contemporary classical composer from Sydney. The notes on the music, see below, also include the piano accompaniment.
A useful book for music teachers, parents eager to encourage their child to take up music and for anyone who enjoys music making in the company of family and friends.
